Small Businesses Connected Through Chamber’s Mission to China

Business Forum in China Produced Several Winning Leads – Here is one Story…

China
On a recent whirlwind trip to China, a 150-person delegation from the Mountain View Chamber of Commerce took in sights from Tiananmen Square to the Forbidden City and the Great Wall. In all four cities visited on this 10-day tour – Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou and Suzhou – the group experienced awe-inspiring, historic landmarks, delicious Chinese feasts, and the grace of Chinese culture.

“It was an incredible experience,” said Allison Nelson, President/CEO of the Chamber of Commerce Mountain View. “The sights were so beautiful. The trip surpassed all my expectations.”

People from as far away as Maine and Panama joined this November 2006 trip. Most people chose this trip for the tour experience, and they were not disappointed. Paul Laughton from San Jose summed it up saying, “It was truly an adventure of a life time.”

Survey Shows “Life is Good” in Mountain View and a Strong Local Economy is Important to Residents

November 10th, 2006

A professional survey of Mountain View residents found that 97% of respondents were “very” or “somewhat” satisfied with the quality of life in Mountain View. According to Bryan Godbe, President of Godbe Research, the professional research firm that conducted the survey and has been conducting satisfaction surveys for cities since 1990, these results are “excellent” and “97% satisfaction is one of the highest scores Godbe Research has seen for a city.”

The survey also found that 95% of the respondents were “very” or “somewhat” satisfied with the City’s performance, up from an 87% rating the City received in a similar poll conducted in 1995.

The business community should be pleased that residents value a strong local economy. When asked to rate the importance of a variety of current and potential City services and programs, respondents ranked “keeping the public places safe from crime” the highest, followed by “maintaining a strong local economy,” and “maintaining a strong financial base to fund City programs and services.”

“This is great news for our organization and our local businesses,” says Chamber CEO Carol Olson. “Creating a strong local economy is one of our core competencies and is of critical importance to our members. We are extremely fortunate to be in a community that so highly values and supports these efforts.”
